The center was founded to foster and furnish activities, programs and facilities that increase the understanding and enjoyment of the fine arts. It features exhibitions, poetry and literary readings, musical programs and lectures. Classes, workshops and outreach programs are also offered. Timothy C. Donley is a violin restorer and maker based in Independence, Virginia. He restores and repairs all types of fiddles, violins, violas, cellos, double basses, and bows. The Gallery features local artisans' work in fine art and fine craft.  A wide selection of paintings, sculpture, clay, jewelry, fiber arts, mosaic, glass and wood are featured along with periodic exhibits of regional artists. The gallery is a site on the Virginia Harmony Trail in the City of Galax, and is a member of 'Round the Mountain Artisan Network.
