Edith Bolling Wilson Birthplace Museum

Visit the birthplace and childhood home of First Lady Edith Bolling Wilson. Born and raised in Wytheville, Edith Bolling Wilson is a descendant of Pocahontas and the only southern Appalachian-born First Lady. As one of only eight historic sites across the country dedicated to the interpretation of a First Lady, the museum tells the story of the overlooked, yet vitally important role Edith Bolling Wilson played in the White House at a pivotal moment during World War I. Through media, exhibits, and knowledgeable guides, you can learn more about why she is sometimes called “the first woman President.”

Tours of the unrestored historic Bolling Family Home, built in the 1840s, are available for $5/person.

We are currently open for walk-in tours on Thursdays and Fridays, 10am-2pm. Other times available by appointment. Please call (276) 223-3484 to schedule a tour. We are happy to work with you to arrange a time and date that suits your needs.
