Danville & Western Caboose

The Downtown area of Stuart is known as The Depot. This name is derived from the railroad line, The Danville and Western, (affectionately referred to as the “dick and willie”) which ended in Stuart. This railroad carried many of the agricultural products out of the county while brining other supplies in. The railroad was removed during the second world war. To pay tribute to our past, Stuart installed a replica caboose of the Dick and Willie train at the head of the Mayo River Rail Trail.
