Enjoy the beauty of what The Nature Conservancy has deemed “One of the Last, Great Places.” Virginia’s newest State Park, and one-of-a-kind, Clinch River State Park is dubbed as a “string of pearls” along the most biodiverse waterway in our hemisphere. Sugar Hill is the hub of this ever-growing treasure complemented by multiple public river access points upstream and downstream with other “pearls” currently under development.
The Sugar Hill Unit in St. Paul (Wise County) is open for hiking, biking and fishing. Sugar Hill currently has nearly 8 miles of hiking trails, a picnic shelter, over 2 miles of river frontage, and significant cultural and historical attributes. The property contains remnants of an 18th-century French settlement. There is a public boat launch available for boat access to the Clinch River at Artrip (Russell County).
Development continues to highlight the Clinch’s natural, historical and recreational resources. The first blueway state park in Virginia, soon there will be several 250-400 acre anchor properties connected by multiple canoe/kayak access points along a 100 mile stretch of the Clinch River.
Open 6 am to dusk.
