The Brush Mountain Coal Miners Memorial is a black granite monument that celebrates the lives and spirits of the Brush Mountain Coal miner. There are also two restored coal cars at the site with a plaque honoring the miners that were killed while working in the mines. We also have a building with coal mining artifacts inside that is used for educational presentations and celebrations such as our fun-d day during the fall and our community picnics throughout the year. Brush Mountain is located just outside of Blacksburg, Va on Glade Road in the little community of Tom’s Creek. The coal mines in this area included a state run mine that supplied coal to Virginia Tech and many privately owned and operated mines were also abundant in the area to provided coal to heat the homes in the surrounding communities.
