Most of the landscape along the 469 mile Blue Ridge Parkway consists of mountainous terrain and steep wooded ridges. The 30 mile stretch of the parkway through Carroll County presents the traveler with a different pastoral view due to the fact that the county is within the Blue Ridge Plateau sub-region of the Blue Ridge Mountain chain. Here the landscape reflects broad rolling hills – most with farmland. At this overlook, the visitor can gain a greater appreciation for the rural nature of the area. The agricultural view from this location (milepost 202.9) was highly rated in a recent National Park Service study of the county’s scenic qualities. The Blue Ridge Parkway in Carroll County is easily accessible to Interstate 77, via Exit 8 (Fancy Gap).
