Fall is here and perhaps you are looking for the perfect sightseeing locations for the changing leaves. While there are no bad views in Southwest Virginia, there are some locations that really stand out. We’ve gathered a list full of great sightseeing locations from across the region.
Molly’s Knob, Hungry Mother State Park

Today’s #virginiacities feature: Molly’s Knob near Marion VA by @lost_hiker_
The first on our list is Molly’s Knob in Hungry Mother State Park. This location requires a bit of a hike, however, the views from up top are well worth the trek. Located in Marion, Virginia, Molly’s Knob is a great lookout point any time of day, but expect to see even better views in the early morning or evening hours.
The Great Channels Preserve Area
Like Molly’s Knob, The Channels require a decent hike to get to the top. Along the way, you will see so many scenic viewpoints and encounter many natural wonders. Atop the Channels, you will encounter an old fire tower, maze-like stone formations, and views as far as your eye can see.
Big Walker Lookout

Just outside of Wytheville, Virginia is Big Walker Lookout. This location gives access to some amazing scenic views as well as other amenities such as a country store and seasonal events. Aside from the lookout area and things to do, there’s also a byway which is fantastic for taking scenic drives and viewing the Fall foliage.
Cascade Falls
Cascade Falls is a staple in Giles County. This location also requires a hike but isn’t quite as challenging as the first two on the list. At the end of the trail are a majestic waterfall and rocky resting area. Along the way, you can expect to see dense forests, streams, and natural beauty.
Grayson Highlands State Park

Grayson Highlands State Park is a well known year-round for its scenic views and outdoor recreation opportunities. The vantage point from the tops of some of the trails provides some of the best views in Southwest Virginia. Another highlight at Grayson Highlands is the wild ponies you’ll meet along the way.
White Top Mountain
Just up the road from Grayson Highlands is White Top Mountain. While not offering as many trails as some of the previous locations, this location allows you to drive all the way to the top (with some optional hiking from there). This area offers stunning views for miles and miles.
Natural Tunnel State Park

Natural Tunnel is a wonderful State Park located in Duffield. This park offers plenty of options for things to see and do. Rather you enjoy a nice hike, boat ride, biking, or camping, you’ll find many opportunities here. Plan a day trip or a weekend getaway and make stay in one of their cabins.
Blue Ridge Parkway
The Blue Ridge Parkway is one location that has to be on your Fall sightseeing list. The Parkway stretches for many miles in Southwest Virginia and will take you near locations such as Floyd, Stuart, and Galax. The possible things to do along the parkway are near limitless.
