Historic Downtown State Street – An Official Main Street Community

History and tradition abound in Bristol, VA/TN, a truly unique twin-city. In 1881, both sides of Bristol designated the center of the city’s main thoroughfare, State Street, as the Tennessee/Virginia state line. Today, Bristol’s Historic Downtown District, also known as State Street, features specialty gift shops, art galleries, cafes, restaurants and antique shops, and a variety of theatre, street festivals, and live music.

As a Certified Main Street Community, Downtown Bristol has more to offer every day — more activities, more shops, more homes, more offices and more LIFE. This progress did not just happen, it is largely thanks to the ongoing unified efforts of businesses, groups, and individuals coordinated through Believe in Bristol.

Believe in Bristol is a non-profit organization, composed of dedicated citizens, business owners, and other friends of Bristol who recognize the role a vital downtown plays in preserving and furthering our communities identity, spirit, and economy.

As a result, Downtown Bristol is now a pedestrian friendly shopping environment, with a strong sense of community and its own unique character.
